Castelluccio di Norcia is a town located in the National Park of the Sibillini Mountains, at an altitude of 1452 meters and a few kilometers (about 28) from Norcia (PG), in Valnerina.
The village is located on top of a hill, in the middle of a plateau in front of the Mount Carrier. The plateau is divided into 3 levels: Pian Grande; Small and Pian Pian Lost. For a total of 15 km², that during the year appear chromatically “poor.”
The “sameness” is broken between late May and early July of each year thanks to the spectacle of nature (the case was never more appropriate for the idiomatic expression, ed) called “La Fiorita” Castelluccio di Norcia. When the flowers bloom 3 floors exploding colors, with shades ranging from yellow to red ocher, purple to white. For example you can see lentils (features and grown in Castelluccio), gentianellas, poppies, daffodils, violets, daffodils, purple eugeniae, clovers, shamrocks and many more. And if you decide to take a walk in this “natural mosaic”, who knows what you fail to spot some deer and gazelle …
Despite the Feast of the Flowering takes place every year in the third and the last Sunday of June, there is not a better or worse time to attend the Flowering or Fiorita. And not even a climax. Depending on the time you will find a more or less present, more or less colors. It depends on many factors: how much it rained during winter and spring; the period of exposure to the sun; the planting period, especially the lentil. Without forgetting that each species has a different flower to bloom period.
